SPORTS Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has assured that the iconic Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) will not be affected by its shift in dates to October this year. The Malaysia National Cycling Federation (MNCF) confirmed that the race will be moved to October 11-18 — approved by the world body, UCI. Faizal had in March unveiled the race routes for LTdL. At the time, the race was scheduled for June 11-18. LTdL will now be one of the last tours on this year's global road racing calendar.

It (shift to October) is not a problem," said Faizal yesterday. "The Sports Ministry have already discussed this with the private company organising the race (Human Voyage Sdn Bhd) and the world body. "We cannot simply postpone the race. We had discussed this with the teams and UCI, and they agreed. They consider this to be an important race. "Although the race has been postponed, it will continue without any changes to the routes." The race was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was last held in February 2020, just weeks before the Covid-19 lockdowns began.
